On January 10, 2000 United Support Foundation (USF) started offering free training in computer hardware and software, including setting up Internet connection for the elderly, mathematics and statistics, for Children K-12, the needy and people with disabilities in the neighborhood. The training was soon extended beyond the neighborhood residents, and the number of people coming for the training grew exponentially. In June 18, 2001 United Support Foundation (USF) was incorporated as a non-profit organization.
In keeping to our tradition of providing high, innovative and quality training, USF has received in-kind donation from federal government through General Service Administration (GSA) computers and other teaching equipment in the amount of five hundred thousand dollars ($500, 000.00) that has helped in making our facility one of the best training facilities in Washington D.C. Area.
USF training is focused on low and moderate income individuals. Targeted participants are men and women with an aptitude and interest in the work and with a strong desire to enter and stabilize themselves and their families as a result of regular employment. Our training addresses employment needs of low and moderate income and employment training for families and individuals.
USF training meets demographic/socio-economic needs of people in our Community and we have within the span of three (4) years in existence trained over two thousand five hundred (2500) people. USF has qualified English and Spanish trainers that provide both basic and advanced in computer technology.USF provides instructor-led training in computer technology that best prepares our graduates to compete in the job market.
USF solicits for grant funding descriptively and legitimately from different sources, and those grants are applied to its instructor-led training in computer, mathematics, reading, employment interview skills, job search training and placement opportunity. USF has registered with the Secretary of the State of Maryland, and has been approved to solicit for funds with ID # 13029; # EIN 52-234045; CFC # 7944; DUNS # 121443894.
USF is a minority managed non-profit organization. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, sex, or disability. Applicants using wheel chairs will utilize Our Main Campus at Finns Lane location which is wheel chair assessable. Other arrangements will be made on a case-by-case basis according to individual needs.
Many people in our community children and adult need training in Information Technology. They do not even have a computer to commence their IT Carrier Training. They are willing to be trained, but the money is not available.
